Lacking big innovation and being disruptive can be big problems for organizations that need quick solutions. GV (formally Google Venture) has developed a five-day process called SPRINT for solving big problems. Over the course of a week, the SPRINT team, made up of key individuals within your organization, will go through exercises of divergent and convergent thinking, expert interviews and insights development. The team will advance many ideas to concepts and then narrow down those concepts to one or two prototypes that can be further developed. At the end of the week, these prototypes will be shared with customers for their feedback. This process can be used with new consumer and B2B products, services and software.
As an experienced SPRINT Facilitator, I have seen what can happen when people come together and focus on one specific problem. Done properly, SPRINT can kick-start an organization and have amazing and impactful results. The key to this technique is intense focus on a really BIG problem. The process will require a critical investment of time and commitment by key people in the organization for that week. The pay-off however can be tremendous and well worth the investment.
